Library Services for Faculty


Library Instruction Reference Assistance Course Reserves Book & Website Requests Circulation

 
Instructional Services
  • Schedule Library Instruction Sessions (orientations) either online or by calling the Reference Desk at Ext. 2425 as far in advance as possible. These approximately one-hour lectures are taught by a Librarian, and are tailored to assist your students in completing the assignments for your class. Instructors should to schedule an orientation at least one week in advance.
  • Instructors may refer students to the one-unit basic information skills course, Library 100: Introduction to Library Resources. Taught by the librarians, this course is open-entry until the ninth week of the semester.
  • Librarians are also available to assist you in developing assignments that integrate library resources and research into your curriculum.
 
 
 

Reference Assistance Librarians are available Monday through Saturday to provide research assistance using an extensive collection of reference sources. They may be reached at Ext. 2425.

Bibliographies And Book Lists With sufficient lead time, librarians will prepare bibliographies and other written guides for your courses. Ask to see samples at the reference desk or on the web.

Acquisitions Of Books And Periodicals Library collection development is a joint responsibility of library faculty and classroom faculty. Classroom faculty may order materials by submitting an order request form for Books/Periodicals or Websites. Classroom faculty are also encouraged to work with library faculty on collection development in their area of expertise.

Reserve Services Faculty may have library materials, as well as items from their personal collections, placed on reserve for students’ use. Requests should be submitted three days prior to need. See Reserve Room Policies for more details. Call Ext. 2423 or visit the circulation desk.

Online Resources The online book catalog provides access to all titles in the library’s collection. In addition, the library subscribes to over 45 web-based databases from services such as EbscoHost, NewsBank, GaleNet, RAND California, Facts.com, CountryWatch, Ethnic NewsWatch, GenderWatch, Project Muse, and Grove’s Dictionary of Art Online. These resources include citations and full-text for journals, general interest periodicals, newspapers, and selected reference works. They are updated regularly and provide coverage in some cases as far back as 1985.

Interlibrary Loan And Document Delivery Faculty may obtain materials not available in our library by filling out an Interlibrary Loan Request form at the circulation desk.

Circulation Books generally circulate to faculty for one semester with the option to renew. Faculty loans are subject to recall when there are requests for the materials.

Display Cases Faculty may reserve display cases for limited periods of time to exhibit special materials. Call Ext. 2423.
