 Cos. 50A-Introductory –Cos. I   6.5 Units

This is an introductory course in the technical and related theory and manipulative skill pertaining to the field of cosmetology. It is designed to acquaint the students with and to develop their ability to perform the basic skills in hair sculpture and hair color. Emphasis will be placed on the Cosmetology Act, State Board Rules and Regulations, safety, sanitation as it relates to the cosmetology profession.

Prerequisites: Satisfactory completion of the English Placement Process or ENG. 20 with a grade of “C” or better, and satisfactory completion of the Reading Placement Process or READ 43 or equivalent with a grade of credit or “C”  or higher. Completion of the 10th grade or equivalent and one year as a California resident.

 Lecture/Lab

Cos. 51 B – Intermediate - Cos. II  6.5 Units

This is an intermediate course in theory as it pertains to cosmetology. It provides an opportunity for the student to continue relating to the intermediate level of theory and practical skill attainment.

Prerequisites: Cos.51 A or equivalent with a grade of Credit or “C” or better.

 Lecture/Lab

Cos. 53 – Advanced – Cos. III  6.5 Units

This is an advanced course in theory, and manipulative skills. Emphasis is placed on State Board preparedness, professionalism and client relationships.

Prerequisites: Cos. 52C or equivalent with a grade of “C” or better.

 

Course Text: Milady Textbook and study Guide, Ladies Hair Sculpture, Hair Color Design Textbook (Pivot Point), State Board Rules and Regulations, Cosmetology Act and the State Board Performance Criteria.

Attendance: Lecture begins at 8:30, you are expected to be in class and prepared to work. Maximum absence for the 6 week course is 26 hours.

Tests/Quizzes: Tests and Quizzes will be based upon information from the required textbooks and lecture. A midterm evaluation will be based on practical work, quizzes and tests plus a comprehensive final exam. 

Projects/Homework: Project assignments will be discussed in class, homework assignments are outlined in the syllabus.

Grading Scale: 100-94=A, 93-87=B, 86-80=C, 79-75=D, 74 and below=F.

This includes homework assignments, tests, quizzes and practical grades. The total combined grades will be averaged for a final six week grade.
