March 2, 2017

Today, the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department released information surrounding the arrest of a Cerritos College student regarding allegations of sexual assault that occurred off campus.

On February 22, 2017, the student was arrested and booked at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Norwalk Station. The Sheriff’s Department Special Victims Bureau is actively investigating. The law regulates that confidentiality must be maintained for cases of this nature. Details about this case will be limited as the Sheriff’s investigation continues.

Although this incident did not occur on campus, the College does not take this matter lightly. The College will continue to cooperate with the Sheriff’s investigation. A Title IX investigation is also ongoing.

Due to the active nature of this case, please refer anyone alleging to have information on this case immediately to the Special Victims Bureau at 562-946-8531 from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. After business hours, call the Sheriff’s Information Bureau at 213-229-1700 and ask for the on-call Special Victims Bureau detective. If you are affected by these events, you can visit Student Health for confidential personal counseling services. Additional counseling services will be available in HR today until 4 p.m. and Friday from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.

With the College’s sexual misconduct and violence prevention policies in mind, help is available if you are a survivor of sexual assault. You can contact Campus Police at 562-924-3618 or file a report with Dr. Valyncia Raphael, Title IX Coordinator at titleixcoordinator@cerritos.edu.
