Policital Science Mission Statement

Welcome to the Department of Political Science at Cerritos College. The Political Science Department is located in the Social Science Building and is part of the Humanities & Social Sciences Division which serves about 10,000 students per semester. The Department offers a broad scope of courses and serves political science transfer majors, GE transfer students, vocational certificate and AA degree students. The use of technology, in and outside the classroom, is greatly valued within the Political Science Department. As such, the Department is one of the pioneers in developing online instruction and incorporates the Pearson MyLab platform as a vehicle for teaching political science students. Department faculty endeavor to serve as mentors to students and participate in student organizations, clubs, and other campus activities. Moreover, instructors are constantly working to keep their curriculum current to attract the diverse needs and interests of our student body.

Program Student Learning Outcomes (PSLO)

Upon completion of the program, students will:

  1. Describe a common set of core topics including major political systems, political behavior, political violence, political culture, and political legitimacy.
  2. Describe the scope of the political science discipline in terms of its major sub-fields.
  3. Explain relations between nations, political philosophies, and ethical dimensions of government.
  4. Identify crucial facts, historical events, and structures of political institutions.
