ART 115L
PRINTMAKING LAB 1 UNIT
Class hours: 3 lab
Corequisite: ART 116, ART 117, ART 218 or
ART 219.
This is a lab course intended to complement
other courses in the Printmaking
curriculum. It is designed to give practical
experience in working with the techniques of
relief printing, intaglio (etching, aquatint,
drypoint, softground, viscosity, and
photoetching), screenprinting and photo-screenprinting,
collagraphy, embossing, and
monotype. The course will increase the skill
and creative output of the student in areas of
his/her choice. This course may be taken for a
maximum of 4 units. (Formerly ART 15)

ART 116 (CAN ART 20)
BEGINNING PRINTMAKING 3 UNITS
Class hours: 2 lecture/4 studio
Prerequisite: None.
This is an introductory course in printmaking
that will expose the student to various graphic
techniques. The student will explore the
processes of relief, intaglio, and screenprinting
through application and appreciation.
Recommended for graphic design majors
and drawing and painting majors.

ART 117
INTERMEDIATE PRINTMAKING 3 UNITS
Class hours: 2 lecture/4 studio
Prerequisite: ART 116 or equivalent with a
grade of Credit or "C" or higher.
This is a course designed to further the
student’s investigation in the techniques of
etching, collagraphy, and screenprinting.
Related photographic techniques will be
studied and applied further, such as photo-
screenprinting, photo-etching, halftone and
posterization technique, and use of the
enlarger. (Formerly ART 17)

ART 218
SCREENPRINTING 3 UNITS
Class hours: 2 lecture/4 studio
Prerequisite: ART 117 or equivalent with a
grade of Credit or "C" or higher.
The class emphasizes advanced skills,
techniques, and historical knowledge of
screenprinting. An important feature of the
course will be the study of the materials,
stencils,films,blockouts,photomechanical
processes, and inks. Students will be required
to complete particular aesthetic problems
through their prints. (Formerly ART 18)

ART 219
ADVANCED ETCHING 3 UNITS
Class hours: 2 lecture/4 studio
Prerequisite: ART 117 or equivalent with a
grade of Credit or "C" or higher.
This course is designed to investigate the
various techniques of advanced etching,
including grounds, aquatints, photo etching,
and viscosity printing. Also, collagraphy,
embossing, and color will be explored.
Students will be required to deal with particular
aesthetic problems and techniques.
