Cerritos College Web Template - (Side
Navigation Layout)

*** INSTRUCTIONS: Web Pages on the Cerritos College server should contain basic information
about the department or faculty/staff the site represents.
Header Section - The "Header" section is the
top portion of the page which should have a customized graphic for your
site. If you do not have a customized header, please contact the Cerritos
College Web Administration. The Header section
is actually a separate file from the index.html (this) page. The header.html
file is located within the styles folder in your FrontPage view.
Main Body Section - The "Main Body" section of the template begins at the title text
("Cerritos College Web Template" on this page). This Main Body section
continues down from the title to just before the last horizontal bar graphic
(it looks like the bar underneath the title). This is the index.html page.
ONLY THE MAIN BODY section is actually stored within the index.html page.
Everything else is either in the header.html (read above), side-nav.html for left
navigational pages, or the footer.html for bottom navigational pages like
this one (notice the links on the bottom of the page represent the main
choices on the index. These choices will be included on all of the pages of
this site).
An important issue to remember is that the header, footer and nav
sections are pre-defined to use 100% of the screen size. The body section is
also set to do this, but sometimes making changes to the Main Body section
will re-set the size to less than 100% (making your page look unbalanced).
To make sure that all of the tables used in your web page have a width of
100% as opposed to defining the exact number of pixels which is the
default FrontPage option (Techie note: Individual cells of a table should
not use pixel specific sizing either). This will most likely be an issue you
will come across very frequently. Be patient... working with tables like
this gets easier with practice.
Navigation Section - The "Navigation"
section is part of the Main Body section and can either be a list of
hyperlinks typed directly onto the page, included as a side-nav.html page
(like this page has) which also located in the styles folder. The difference is that the
side-nav.html page
option should not be used if you are using the footer section for navigation.
Footer Section - The "Footer" section refers to a list of hyperlinks at the bottom of the
page. What distinguishes the Footer from the Navigation section is that it
includes the ending horizontal bar, links to the Web Administrator and
Disclaimer. The "Last Update" time stamp below the footer CANNOT be part of
the footer (since the last update script is tracking changes to the
index.html and not the footer.html). If you decide to use the footer section
for navigation, be sure the links take the user to
the main pages of the web site... just like a main index. These options will
be repeated on every page of your web site. Reminder: The side-nav.html option
places the main index options on the left side of every page and should
not be used with the footer.html option.

Administration to schedule an appointment. Thank you.
