Course Description:
Course is for students reading beyond grade level 10 who
want to improve their reading skills.
Work is on college-level reading, and will include these skills:

Vocabulary study, vocabulary in context, main ideas
& details, relationship patterns, inferences & conclusions, figurative
language/imagery, judgments, and critical reading.
What you need for this course:
(All books must be NEW, not a copy used by someone in
a previous semester.)

How you will be graded:
1. The work you do in
the reading center – how much you do , how well you do
it (40% of grade)
2. Quiz scores and
reading/writing assignments (20% of grade)
3. Final
Comprehension test (20% of grade)
4. Textbook
assignments and class participation (20% of grade)
Attendance:
Attendance will also count for credit. Class requires 54
hours of attendance on your part in lecture, and in the reading center.
If at the end of semester, you have not satisfied required
hours, you will either be given an incomplete grade until you make up the
time. OR your final grade will be dropped one full grade point.
If you put in extra time in the Reading Center, you gain
points:
30
hours+ = 10 points
20
hours+ = 7 points
10
hours+ = 3 points
Other important information:
1. Starting with the second week, attendance
will be taken by signing a roll-sheet. If you do not sign
the roll-sheet, you will be
counted as absent, and will have to make up the time.
2. Quizzes can be made up, but only on the following class meeting and prior notification to instructor. Any make-up quizzes will have 15% deducted from your score. Quizzes not made up will count as a zero.
3. Cheating will result in a zero for the assignment or exam and may lead to disciplinary action.
4. If you are absent from class, it will be
your responsibility to find out all assignments.
5. All students must take the final examination. If you do not, you will be given an incomplete grade, or letter grade dropped one full grade point – this will be at the option of the instructor.
6. You have the option of enrolling in this class for CR/NC, in place of a letter grade. This can be done only by your requesting this at the office of Admissions during the first three weeks of class.
7. Except for students receiving Financial Aid, instructor will not drop you from class. If you are falling too far behind with course work, it is your responsibility to drop the class by the college deadline (14 week of semester)
8. Grading is as follows: 90 – 100 = A
80 – 89 = B
70 – 79 = C
60 – 69 = D
below 60 = F
This course satisfies the Reading Requirement established by this college. This course is A.A. degree applicable.
