Welcome to my web page! My name is Deola Adeseun. I’ve been at Cerritos College since Fall 1999, and I hope to transfer to UCLA. I got involved in the Scholar’s Honors Program (SHP) because I wanted to better my chances of getting in. I enrolled in Dr. Kreger’s Geography 105 class because it was listed as a women’s studies class, and I knew it would be interesting. It didn’t hurt, of course, that it fulfilled one of my general education requirements. When I decided to make Geography 105 my first honor’s class, Dr. Kreger gave me the freedom to choose any topic for my project, and I already knew what I wanted to write about.

The issue of female genital mutilation was brought to my attention one day while watching "Oprah" on T.V. and it never left my mind. Female genital mutilation is a problem facing millions of women all over the world, yet most people know little or nothing about it. I decided to do my research on female genital mutilation because the heart- wrenching stories I heard inspired me to learn more about the issue. I hope that by reading my paper you will learn something about female genital mutilation that you didn’t know before, and maybe even be inspired to do some research of your own.
