Machu Picchu

picture

This view of the outpost city is perhaps the most widely known.

Here's proof of our visit! No trickery with photoshop here! I do wish our photographer had framed the shot a tad bit better though!

This is said to be one of the ceremonial entrances into the center of the complex. Note the stonework above the doorway!

picture

Another view showing more of the city.

picture

Here you see some of how the Incan stone artisans "cut" the larger stones into smaller ones.

picture

This is one of the main temple rooms used by the high priests.

picture

This field was used for athletic games, markets, sacred ceremonies, and probably a lot more. It is flawless accoustically!

picture

Just look at the precise way in which these stones were cut and ground to fit so seemlessly together. They show almost no effects of weathering!

Looking down onto the Urubamba River. Hang gliding anyone??

picture

This room was used by the highest of priests for meditation. It too was built accoustically precise.

picture

Although tough to see in this photo, this room was dedicated to the Andean Condor, the world's largest flying critter.

Another perspective of the magnificent place!
