CIS 101 Intro. to Computer Information Systems
Access Project 1 - Creating and Using a Database
Common errors:
It is very important that you do this assignment correctly since you
will be using the database file in the next assignment. Here are
some common mistakes that students make when doing this project:
- Students misspell the city Berls as
Beris. There are two records with the city of Berls in the
Client table. Be sure to get this right. Otherwise your
query results in Access Project 2 will be incorrect.
- Make sure that you specify the primary
keys in the Client and Recruiter tables. That would be Client
table has Client Number as the primary key and Recruiter table has
Recruiter number as the primary key.
- To prevent problems later in Access
Project 2, page 106, make sure you do the following correctly:
Be sure that the Recruiter Number fields in
both the Client and the Recruiter table are spelled
correctly/exactly the same and have the same data type of text.
Make sure the Recruiter Number is the
primary key in the Recruiter table as mentioned above.
This lab assignment is from the
Introduction to Office 2007 lab book.
- Read and do the Creating and Using a
Database tutorial, pages
AC 1 - 63.
- Check your work. When you are done
with the tutorial your printouts should look like the following figures:
- 1-57 on page
AC 41 - Client Table
- 1-76a - d on page AC 50 - four reports
- Save your file one last time.
- Submit your homework for grading:
Traditional students: Turn
in the five printouts (Client table and four reports). Write
the following on the printouts:
- CIS 101 Access Project
1, Class Meeting Day and Time
(example: Friday 9:00 AM)
- Your name
Staple the printouts together with the
Client table as the first page followed by the reports in the order
shown in figure 1-76a - d. I will take points off if the
homework is not stapled.
Online students:
Important:
Access files sometimes can grow too big to upload to TalonNet.
To make the file smaller compact the database. The steps are:
In Access with the database open select the Office Button, Manage,
Compact and Repair. Close the file. If necessary save
the file.
Upload
the JSP Recruiters database file to the Access Project 1 assignment
in TalonNet.
Be sure to submit/turn in the lab assignment
by the due date.
