CIS 101 Intro. to Computer Information Systems
Access Project 2 - Querying a Database
Common errors:
Here are some common mistakes that students make when doing this
project:
- Page 105, be sure to add the Recruiter
table first, then add the Client table. This will help prevent
problems when doing the steps on pages 108 - 109.
- Page 106, make sure you do the
following correctly:
Be sure
that the Recruiter Number fields in both the Client and the
Recruiter table are spelled correctly/exactly the same and have the
same data type of text.
Make sure the Recruiter Number is the
primary key in the Recruiter table.
- Also, see common errors in the Access
Project 1 assignment.
This lab assignment is from the
Introduction to Office 2007 lab book.
Note: Throughout this chapter the book
will ask you to print the query using the Quick Print option. I
recommend that you use the Print Preview option instead. You can
save paper if you preview the results to be sure they are correct,
specify the correct printer, set the orientation to portrait or
landscape, set margins and set the "fit to 1 page" option as needed.
- Read and do the Querying a Database tutorial, pages
AC 73 - 127. Please note you must complete Access Project 1
before doing this project.
- Check your work. When you are done
with the tutorial your printouts should look like the following figures:
- 2-9 on page AC 82 - Client Query.
Note: Step 5 instructs you to not save
the query and then on page AC 83 to print the query. Please be
sure to save the query which will include the Recruiter Number = 24
criteria and the results will match figure 2-9 with 5 records for
recruiter 24. If you do not save the query and then you print
it you will get all 10 records. Please be sure to turn in the
query that matches figure 2-9 with 5 records.
- 2-24 on page AC 92 - Client-City Query
with Fort Stewart as the parameter input. When viewing the
query in the Datasheet view print the query using the steps
previously used on pages AC41 - 42.
- 2-57 on page AC 111 - Recruiter-Client
Report. Use the steps you learned in Access tutorial 1 to
print out the report.
- 2-75 on page AC 122 - Client-Recruiter
Crosstab Query. Again, when viewing the query in the Datasheet
view print the query using the steps previously used on pages AC41 -
42.
- Save your file one last time.
- Submit your homework for grading:
Traditional students: Turn
in the four printouts described above. Write
the following on the printouts:
- CIS 101 Access Project
2, Class Meeting Day and Time
(example: Friday 9:00 AM)
- Your name
Staple the printouts together in the
order they are listed above in step 3. I will take points off
if the homework is not stapled.
Online students:
Important:
Remember, Access files sometimes can grow too big to upload to
TalonNet. To make the file smaller compact the database.
The steps are: In Access with the database open select the
Office Button, Manage, Compact and Repair. Close the file.
If necessary save the file.
Upload
the JSP Recruiters database file to the Access Project 2 assignment
in TalonNet.
Be sure to submit/turn in the lab assignment by the
due date.
