CIS 151 Excel For I.T.

Excel Assignment 2 - Formulas and Functions:  Math Basics for Spreadsheet Use

  1. Please note:  Throughout the book it will instruct you to save your files.  In the computer labs on campus you will need to save the files to your USB drive.  If you are using your own computer, then you may save the file to the drive of your choice (hard drive, USB, floppy, etc.).
  2. Data file notes:  In Excel Assignment 1 you should have downloaded the files already.  If you still need the files, then go to the Excel Assignment 1 Web page for the instructions and the link to the data files.
  3. Read Excel Chapter 2 pages 137 - 169.
  4. Do all four hands-on exercises described on pages 137 - 169.
  5. Do Practice Exercise West Transylvania Women's Basketball Season Statistics on pages 173 - 174.  Be sure to check your figures against Figure 2.19 on page 174.  Please note one small error in this exercise.  Item m. has an extra sentence in it.  Ignore the sentence that begins with "Replace Your Name with your......"
  6. Please note when I am grading homework I always check your formulas.  So don't take shortcuts and just type in the answers/values/numbers instead of the formulas.  Be sure to always use the formulas in the steps.  If you have difficulty with a formula then email me with your question and attach the file.  I will help you out.  The main advantage of using an electronic spreadsheet are the formulas.
  7. Online students:  Upload the chap2_ho2_payroll_solution, chap2_ho3_gradebook_solution, chap2_ho4_van_solution, and chap2_pe1_basketball_solution files to the Excel 2 assignment on the class website in TalonNet.  Please note that you must submit all of the files at the same time to the assignment in TalonNet.  So complete all of the hands-on exercises before logging in to TalonNet and submitting them to the assignment.
  8. Traditional students:  During the lab time show the chap2_ho2_payroll_solution, chap2_ho3_gradebook_solution, chap2_ho4_van_solution, and chap2_pe1_basketball_solution files on your computer screen to me.
