CIS 151 Excel For I.T.

Excel Assignment 8 - What-If Analysis

Yeah, not too many errors this time.  Here they are:

Hands-on 1:  Page 511 after step 2, item d you may need to widen the C column.

Hands-on 2:  Page 521, step 2, item d you need to click the OK button twice.  Same with item h.  Page 523, item b, it may be helpful if you look at figure 8.20 on page 524.  Page 526, step 7, item a, be sure to select the Scenario worksheet before doing item a.

Hands-on 3:  Page 535, step 1, item d if you don't have the Solver add-in software installed on your computer, then you may get this message:  "Microsoft Office Excel can't run this add-in.  This feature is not currently installed.  Would you like to install it now?"  Click Yes to install it.  This may take a couple of minutes.  When it is done, go to the Data tab, Analysis group and see if there's a command for Solver.  If the files are already on your computer, then it should install just fine.  If not, you may need the original disks or files to install it.  If you are working in a computer lab on campus, then try clicking Yes and see if it installs.  If it does not install, then check with the Lab Aide on duty for help.

Practice Exercise 2:  Page 544-545, item b.  In the table cell J5 should be 4100, not 4500.  Page 545, item m., highlight cell K16 and make sure the formats for cell L16 matches the rest of the table.  Refer to figure 8.37 on page 546 as you work on this exercise.

  1. Read Chapter 8 pages 505 - 539.
  2. Do all three of the hands-on exercises described on pages 505 - 539.
  3. Do the Practice Exercise 2, pages 544 - 546.
  4. Do the Practice Exercise 3, pages 546 - 547.
  5. Online students:  Upload the chap8_ho1_suv_solution, chap8_ho2_gss_solution, chap8_ho3_optimization_solution, chap8_pe2_glhs_budget_solution, and chap8_pe3_poseyshoppe_solution files to the Excel 8 assignment on the class website.
  6. Traditional students:  During the lab time show the chap8_ho1_suv_solution, chap8_ho2_gss_solution, chap8_ho3_optimization_solution, chap8_pe2_glhs_budget_solution, and chap8_pe3_poseyshoppe_solution files on your computer screen to me.
