CIS 151 Excel For I.T.
Excel Assignment 9 - Collaboration and Workbook Distribution
This chapter is kind of tricky in some places. Mostly due to
the settings and your privileges may be different depending on the
computer you are using (home, work, school, etc.). Just do the
best you can. The goal of this chapter is to show some of the
features for sharing/collaborating/distributing workbooks. If you
think you could really use the feature at work, then in some cases you
will need to follow up with your Information Technology department to
set things up.
Again, not too many errors this time. Yeah! But there are
a few and some notes:
Hands-on 1: Page 575, step 3, after item c you may get a
message about the Compatibility Checker, click the Continue button.
Item d. open up the Office 2007 .xlsx
file. Item e. read the Troubleshooting note. If you are at
home, then you can go to
www.microsoft.com/downloads , search on Office and keyword PDF to
find the Save as PDF or XPS converter download.
Follow the directions to download and install the program on your
system. If you are using a computer on campus you will not have
the rights to do the download/installation. Hopefully it will be
already installed on the lab computers. Check with the Lab Aide on
duty for help. If you are unsuccessful in creating the .pdf file,
then put a note in the assignment letting me know that you had trouble.
No points will be taken off for this problem. Page 577, step 4,
items a - d, skip them. Many of you do not have Outlook installed
and I don't want the email any way.
Hands-on 2: Page 585, step 2, it is recommended that you
make a backup file before performing the Inspect Document steps.
Items f - g are optional. You may not have the IRM and .net
passport account. So skip it. Page 587, item j, BEFORE you
do the Mark as Final steps I strongly recommend that you backup your
file. Once you mark the document as final it will be read-only and
then you cannot make changes to it. After item k, repeat item j.
Item l click OK twice, not just once, then the [read only] status will
show in the title bar.
Hands-on 3: Page 598, Troubleshooting note: click Yes,
not OK. After item d, widen column A. Page 599, item l click
OK once, not twice.
- Read Chapter 9 pages 559 - 599.
- Do all three of the hands-on exercises
described on pages 559 - 599.
- Do Practice Exercise #1 Lee Art Museum
Fundraiser on pages 604 - 605. Here's the tricky part.
When you save the file and reopen it the file will not show the
track changes and the History worksheet. To recreate the track
changes and History you repeat steps: Track Changes, Highlight
Changes, remove the check from the When check box. The changes
will show on your screen. Repeat step g. to recreate the
History worksheet. You can print the History worksheet, but it
does not save. I am telling you this because I don't want you
to waste time trying to save the tracked changes and the History.
When I grade your homework I will do the steps above to check your
tracked changes.
