CIS 201 Systems Analysis & Design

Project 2

  1. Read Chapter 2 in your textbook.
  2. Read and work through the Case-Sim: SCR Associates on page 77.  At the end of the simulation session there is a task list of things you need to do.  You may complete all of the tasks, but I will be only asking for specific task items for grading purposes.  Please be sure to submit only the task items I request.
  • Note:  remember you need a password.  The password is sad7
  1. For this simulation session please submit the following tasks:
  • Task #3:  Write a draft project scope statement for the TIMS project.  The is usually about 1 sentence no more than three sentences.  The project will have a specific timetable and include various features and capabilities in the new system.  List the project constraints in bulleted format.  You should be able to come up with about 5 constraints.  Remember this is a draft so just do the best you can.
  • Task #4:  Interviewing is the number one fact-finding technique used.  It is the most effective way to gather facts for the project.  It is also the most time consuming.  Therefore it is important to plan your interviews.  Please list the people you would interview and the questions you would ask each one of them.  Don't be surprised if the list of people is a short list (hint ;-) ).
  • Hints:  As with most projects you learn information over time.  Sometimes you go back to your notes from previous work sessions, interviews, etc.  Throughout the course of this class you too will have to go back to previous Case-Sim simulation sessions.  That's the hint.  You may have to go back to session 1 and re-read the Inbox and review the company website.  Another thing like most projects you don't have all of the information you need in the beginning of the project.  That will also be true with the TIMS project.  Each week you will get more and more information.  So be patient and work with the information that you have.

Remember some of you have never done this before.  So don't get too frustrated.  Do the best you can and submit something by the deadline.  I will review it and if you are on target, then you will get your check mark/points for the project.  If you miss the mark, then I will give you feedback and allow you to resubmit the assignment.  Now this is not a license to be sloppy or lazy.  I can tell when that is happening.  Give it a good honest effort and I will help you.  Also, if you have questions please feel free to email me.

  1. Type the following at the top of your document:
