CIS 201 Systems Analysis & Design

Project 3

  1. Read Chapter 3 in your textbook.
  2. Read and work through the Case-Sim: SCR Associates on page 128.  At the end of the simulation session there is a task list of things you need to do.  You may complete all of the tasks, but I will be only asking for specific task items for grading purposes.  Please be sure to submit only the task items I request.
  • Note:  remember you need a password.  The password is sad7
  1. For this simulation session please submit the following tasks:
  • Task #3:  Read the JAD session summary in the Data Library and put together a list of system requirements.  List the requirements by the following categories:  outputs, inputs, processes, performance, and controls.  Review pages 103 - 105, System Requirements Checklist for examples.  When reading the JAD session summary look for clues like the system must or should do....  Requirements analysis and determination are very important in the Analysis Phase.  This task is to get you to start thinking about system requirements.
  • Task #4:  Draw a functional decomposition diagram (FDD) of the main functions for TIMS.  Keep it simple.  This diagram should be simple.  One box at the top with the TIMS system name in it and four boxes under the top box.  So that's the hint there are only four functions in TIMS (at this time).  Another clue is Dave summarizes very well what those functions might be in the JAD session summary document. (hint ;-) )  Review pages 100 - 101, Functional Decomposition Diagrams.  Notice in figure 3-9 the Book Management function is broken down in to 5 functions.  In TIMS you will have four functions.  Please notice most of the lower-level functions begin with verb/action words such as Add, Remove, Archive, Checkout and Return.  This is an excellent style using verbs to begin each function.
  • Remember some of you have never done this before.  So don't get too frustrated.  Do the best you can and submit something by the deadline.  I will review it and if you are on target, then you will get your check mark/points for the project.  If you miss the mark, then I will give you feedback and allow you to resubmit the assignment.  Now this is not a license to be sloppy or lazy.  I can tell when that is happening.  Give it a good honest effort and I will help you.  Also, if you have questions please feel free to email me.
  1. Type the following at the top of your document:
  • CIS 201 Project 3
  • Class Meeting Day and Time (example: Wednesday 7:00 PM or Online)
  • Your Name
  1. Submit your homework for grading:

Traditional students:  Print the homework.  If there is more than one page please staple them together.
Online students:  Upload the project document(s) to the Project 3 assignment in TalonNet.

  1. Optional:  Review the PowerPoint presentation and do the Chapter Review test found on the Lectures & Chapter Reviews Web page.

Be sure to submit/turn in the project by the due date.
