CIS 201 Systems Analysis & Design

Project 4

  1. Read Chapter 4 in your textbook.
  2. Read and work through the Case-Sim: SCR Associates on page 182.  At the end of the simulation session there is a task list of things you need to do.  You may complete all of the tasks, but I will be only asking for specific task items for grading purposes.  Please be sure to submit only the task items I request.
  • Note:  remember you need a password.  The password is sad7
  1. For this simulation session please submit the following tasks:
  • Task #1:  Create only the context diagram for the TIMS system.  You may use either Word or Visio to draw the diagram.  I suggest Visio.  In Visio, use the Gane-Sarson shapes/template.  Connecting shapes with multiple flows (arrows) is tricky.  You may have to use the drawing tool in addition to the connection tool.  Also, be sure to apply the appropriate arrowheads using the Line Ends button.  On the lectures page, http://www.cerritos.edu/sfuschetto/CIS201/CIS201Lectures.html , you will find a blank context diagram for SCR.  One in Visio and one in Word.  You may use either the Word or Visio blank form to create the SCR context diagram.
  • Task #4:  Prepare only the decision table to show the logical rules described in Jesse's message about fees and discounts.  I suggest that you use either a Word table or Excel to create the decision table.  A good example is on page 176, figure 4-36.  Another example is the Case In Point 4.2 on page 177.  On the lectures page, http://www.cerritos.edu/sfuschetto/CIS201/CIS201Lectures.html , you will find a blank decision table you can use to create the decision table for the Case In Point example.  We did this exercise in class.  Confused?  Then, look at the answer that is also on the lectures page.  Last but not least on the lectures page there's a blank decision table form for you to use for the SCR case.
  • Remember some of you have never done this before.  So don't get too frustrated.  Do the best you can and submit something by the deadline.  I will review it and if you are on target, then you will get your check mark/points for the project.  If you miss the mark, then I will give you feedback and allow you to resubmit the assignment.  Now this is not a license to be sloppy or lazy.  I can tell when that is happening.  Give it a good honest effort and I will help you.  Also, if you have questions please feel free to email me.
  1. Type the following at the top of your document:
  • CIS 201 Project 4

  • Your Name
