CIS 201 Systems Analysis & Design

Project 7

  1. Read Chapter 7 pages 282 - 296 in your textbook.  Wow only the first part of chapter 7?  Yes for this project.  In project 8 you will finish reading chapter 7 and do the user interface design.  Read the Project 8 Web page for more details.
  2. Read and work through the Case-Sim: SCR Associates on page 325.  At the end of the simulation session there is a task list of things you need to do.  You may complete all of the tasks, but I will be only asking for specific task items for grading purposes.  Please be sure to submit only the task items I request.
  • Note:  remember you need a password.  The password is sad7
  1. For this project please submit the following task:
  • Task #1:  Create the design for the detail report as described on page 325, task #1.  Also, please include a list of report controls and security that you think are required for this report.  Hint:  read page 296 for example controls and security constraints.  Be sure to list the ones that are applicable to this report.

You can use which ever tool you are most familiar with such as Word, Excel, or Access.  I usually use Excel for designing report mockups.  The report mockup should contain sample data so that the user can envision how the actual report will look.  Please be sure to make up some fake/sample data for your report design.  For a good example read the SoftWear, Limited case on pages 331 - 337.  Hopefully this assignment will not take you too long as compared to the previous assignments and the upcoming Project 8 user interface design.

  • Online students:  After you submit your design in TalonNet I will upload it to a discussion forum.  The other students in the class will review your design and enter constructive feedback.  Remember on the course outline there were two required discussions.  This will be discussion number one.  You also will review other students' designs and give feedback in posted discussions.  The discussion process is used to simulate a presentation of your design to the users and management where they would provide feedback.  In the traditional section of this class the students present their designs to the class and we give them feedback.  You are welcome to attend class on presentation night, 11/12 at 7:00 PM in SS138.  The students in previous terms have found this process most informative.  By the end of the night we all know what a good report design would look like.
  • Traditional students:  You will present your design to the class and turn in a paper copy of the report to me.  This will be presentation number one.  The presentations are used to simulate a presentation of your design to the users and management where they would provide feedback.  The students in previous terms have found this process most informative.  By the end of the night we all know what a good report design would look like.
  • Remember some of you have never done this before.  So don't get too frustrated.  Do the best you can and submit something by the deadline.  I will review it and if you are on target, then you will get your check mark/points for the project.  If you miss the mark, then I will give you feedback and allow you to resubmit the assignment.  Now this is not a license to be sloppy or lazy.  I can tell when that is happening.  Give it a good honest effort and I will help you.  Also, if you have questions please feel free to email me.
  1. Type the following at the top of your document:
