CIS 201 Systems Analysis & Design
Project 8
- Read Chapter
7 pages 297 - 321 in your textbook.
- Read and work through the Case-Sim: SCR
Associates on page 325. At the end of the simulation session
there is a task list of things you need to do. You may
complete all of the tasks, but I will be only asking for specific
task items for grading purposes. Please be sure to submit
only the task items I request.
- Note: remember you need a password. The
password is sad7.
- For this project please
submit the following task:
- Task #3: Create a list of
data validation checks for the data entry screens. Hint:
see page 317 - 318.
- Task #4: Create a source
document for an SCR mail-in class registration form. This
can be done in Word. Then design the data entry screen for
a Web-based course registration form. Make sure your data
entry form matches and flows well with the data entry screen.
You should use consistent names on labels and titles. The
fields on the form should be sequenced to match the fields on
the screen. You can use Word's drawing and shape tools,
Visio, HTML, Visual Studio, or even Access to create the design.
Just like with the
report mockup you should use sample data so that the user can
envision how the actual screen will look. For a good
example read the SoftWear, Limited case on pages 331 - 337.
This project will take some time. So plan on it.
- Notes: If you are using
Visio, then here's the paths to some helpful templates.
Visio 2003: Select File from the menu, then New, Choose
Drawing Type.., under Category (left side), click Software, then
Windows XP User Interface. Visio 2007: File, New,
Getting Started, Template Categories, Software and Database,
Windows XP User Interface. OK, yes you are supposed to be
designing a Web page and not a Windows form. But, some of
the same controls and icons can be used for a Web page as are
used for a Windows form.
Another hint for Visio: You
can either draw a rectangle to represent the form and then add
controls to it or you can use the Blank Form shape on the
Windows & Dialogues template to draw the form and then add the
controls to it. On the Blank form you can double-click the
form name and change it to TIMS.
Last hint for Visio: On the
Common Controls template, drag and drop controls such as
drop-downs, check boxes, textboxes, and radio buttons as needed
on to the form.
- Online students: After you
submit your design in TalonNet I will upload it to a discussion
forum. The other students in the class will review your
design and enter constructive feedback. Remember on the
course outline there were two required discussions. This
will be discussion number two. You also will review other
students' designs and give feedback in posted discussions.
The discussion process is used to simulate a presentation of
your design to the users and management where they would provide
feedback. In the traditional section of this class the
students present their designs to the class and we give them
feedback. You are welcome to attend class on presentation
night, 11/12 at 7:00 PM in SS138. The students in previous
terms have found this process most informative. By the end
of the night we all know what a good report design would look
like.
- Traditional students: You
will present your design to the class and turn in a paper copy
of the registration form and data entry design to me. This will be presentation number
one. Yes, still number one. I will explain in class.
The presentations are used to simulate a presentation of your
design to the users and management where they would provide
feedback. The students in previous terms have found this
process most informative. By the end of the night we all
know what a good report design would look like.
-
Remember some of you have never done this before. So
don't get too frustrated. Do the best you can and submit
something by the deadline. I will review it and if you are
on target, then you will get your check mark/points for the
project. If you miss the mark, then I will give you
feedback and allow you to resubmit the assignment. Now
this is not a license to be sloppy or lazy. I can tell
when that is happening. Give it a good honest effort and I
will help you. Also, if you have questions please feel
free to email me.
- Type the following at the top
of your document:
- CIS 201 Project 8
- Class Meeting Day and Time
(example: Wednesday 7:00 PM or Online)
- Your Name
- Submit your homework for grading:
Traditional students: Print
and present the homework on presentation night, 11/12 at 7:00 PM.
Online students: Upload
the project document(s) to the Project 8 assignment
in TalonNet. I will then upload the file to a discussion forum
as mentioned above. I will let you know when the discussions
are available via email.
- Optional: Review the PowerPoint
presentation and do the Chapter Review test found on the Lectures &
Chapter Reviews Web page.
Be sure to submit/turn in the project by the
due date.
