Services

Student Health Services is staffed by a group of health care professionals who are dedicated to your wellness. Physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses and medical assistants provide basic outpatient services for the diagnosis and treatment of acute and sub-acute illnesses and injuries. For medical and surgical problems, which are beyond the scope of the SHS, students will be provided with referrals to local community health facilities.

Your student health fee covers:

  • Treatment of minor illnesses and injuries
  • Physical exams ($10) and well checks
  • Free or low-cost diagnostic blood, urine, strep & flu tests
  • Free or low-cost immunizations and TB testing
  • Referrals for complex and chronic medical conditions
  • Free over-the-counter medications, band-aids, condoms, Narcan, & Fentanyl Test Strips
  • Low-cost in-house pharmacy medications

Medical Services NOT Provided by the Student Health Center

  • Illness or injury requiring hospitalization
  • Specialty services, such as complex neurological, surgical, psychiatric, optometric, obstetric, gynecological, or dental care
  • Cost of prescribed medication
  • Visits to the emergency department
  • When the student is no longer enrolled at Cerritos College or while on leave of absence (we can provide referrals)

Chiropractors are available Thursday mornings from 8:30am to 12:00pm

  • Services are available to currently enrolled students who have paid Student Health fees.

SHS offers free dermatology consultations by appointment.

Individual Nutrition Consultation:

An individual session with a registered dietitian (RD) can be made at Student Health Services. At the individual session, a personalized meal plan can be developed to meet your nutrition needs.

    Individuals desiring weight management guidance

The Family PACT Program is a comprehensive, confidental family planning program offering FDA-approved methods of contraception and STI screening and treatment with counseling woven throughout all clinical services.  Family PACT is administered by the California Department of Health Services, Office of Family Planning (OFP) and Cerritos College Student Health Services.  This program provides reproductive services for both men and women.

Free: Pap Smears, Counseling for Birth control and Sexually Transmitted Infections testing & treatment, Pregnancy Testing, and Birth control including; Oral Contraceptive Pills, Nuva Ring, Condoms, Patch, Diaphragm, Depo Provera (shot), and Emergency Contraceptives.

 Health Occupation Requirements

SHS staff and providers are trained to understand transgender/non-binary healthcare needs and barriers. Though we are unable to prescribe gender-affirming hormone therapy, we are happy to assist you with finding care within the community.

This service is established to care for male-related problems.  We provide exams, consultation, and referrals for specific conditions.  Our focus is to educate men concerning such issues as STD's, contraception, and testicular and prostate cancer.

You should be examined immediately for any of the following:

  • Lumps in testicles or groin
  • Any skin sores, bumps or other changes in your testicles
  • Burning or pain when you urinate
  • A drip of discharge from the penis
    (Discharge can be white and watery or yellowish and thick)
  • Testicles ache or feel sore or painful
  • Pain during sex
  • If you are having sex with more than one partner, get examined for sexually transmitted infections (STI's) every six months

Guidance for COVID-19 Exposures, Symptoms and Positive Cases:Guidance on Isolation and Quarantine for COVID-19 (ca.gov)

Positive Cases:

  1. Stay home if you have COVID symptoms you may infect others without knowing it.
  2. Contact the Student Health Center: 562-860-2451 Ext. 2321 for next steps.
  3. Speak to a healthcare provider about treatment options, especially if you develop symptoms.
  4. If you have symptoms, isolate for 24 hours. If no fever for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication AND symptoms are mild and resolving contact the student health center to be cleared to return to campus.  
  5. Wear a well-fitting mask indoors around others for 10 days. Day 0 is the day your symptoms began or the day you test positive if no symptoms. May stop masking if 2 sequential negative tests 2 days in a row at least 24 hours apart.
