Definitions

Issei: A Japanese who emigrated to the United States after 1907 and not eligible until 1952 for citizenship. Born in Japan.

Nisei: A person of Japanese descent, born and education in the United States, e.g. Japanese Americans.

Sansei: A grandchild of Japanese immigrants to the United States, e.g. Japanese Americans.
