Betty Friedan: The Personal Is
Political
Reflection – Chapters 1 – 3
General Information:
The Reflection:
In reading the first three chapters of the Friedan biography, you were
asked to identify,
describe and evaluate specific experiences or events in Friedan’s personal
experiences that caused her to become an advocate for those who were
marginalized by mainstream American society, political actions that led to
social justice and protection of individual choice, and women workers in
industry. In this reflection describe
one example from two of the assigned chapters (1, 2, 3)
that illustrate Friedan’s political apprenticeship. Fully describe each of these examples and
state why you believe they helped to shape Friedan’s political perspective and
awareness of women’s inequality in American society.
