Saturn and Jupiter, 2023-09-09

One critical component that I had not included in previous observations was a filter to limit the light that could reach the ZWO ASI224MC camera. The camera is sensitive over a range of wavelengths of light beyond what the human eye can detect. The data we want to capture should only be visible light -- wavelengths between 400 and 700 nm. Beginning with data from tonight, I used an IR/UV cut filter to limit the wavelengths reaching the camera to this range.

The atmosphere was exceptionally steady during the last 30 or so minutes when I was imaging Jupiter. This image from 2023-09-09 1041 UTC (3:41 am PDT) is the clearest view I had that night.
