Cerritos College's Talon Marks newspaper team recently won awards at the annual Journalism Association of Community Colleges (JACC) state conference at the Burbank Marriott Hotel. The conference was attended by nearly 500 students and faculty from community colleges throughout California. The Talon Marks staff competed in the mail-in and on-the-spot competitions, and attended workshops in various areas of journalism... The Leaders Involved in Creating Change (LINC) program will host a series of events in conjunction with the Foster Care Awareness Month, an annual campaign to raise awareness about foster care issues and motivate people to help foster care and foster children succeed. Cerritos College will hold its 59th annual commencement ceremony to honor its graduating students on Friday, May 20 at 6 p.m. in Falcon Stadium. Alicia Edquist, instructional lab technician I and adjunct instructor in the journalism program received the Rich Cameron Volunteer of the Year award for her volunteer work in the Journalism Association of Community Colleges (JACC) as its Communication Director and for all the work she has volunteered to the organization. The award was presented to her at the 2016 JACC State Convention that was held in March at the Burbank Marriott Hotel. The award is presented annually to an outstanding volunteer in the organization. - Student Health Services Celebrates National Nutrition Month
Student Health Services recently celebrated National Nutrition Month with fun games and display in Falcon Square. To promote this year’s theme Savor the Flavor of Eating Right, students were invited to spin the Nutrition Wheel and were challenged with questions from different food groups, and healthy snacks were given out as prizes. Registered Dietitian Hazel Ng explained the "fats in common foods" display.
- Dr. Lisa Boutin-Vitela Presents at the Renaissance Society of America
Art History Instructor Dr. Lisa Boutin-Vitela recently attended and presented her research at the annual meeting of the Renaissance Society of America in Boston. Her presentation, titled Earthly Delights: Illusory Pottery and Renaissance Dining, examined three categories of sixteenth-century ceramics that employed illusory techniques to impress, surprise, and even deceive viewers in the context of dining in Italy and France. She also joined a tour of the conservation lab at the Museum of Fine Arts. - You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown Coming to Cerritos College Theatre
