  • Scholars' Honors Program Celebrates Graduates

    The Cerritos College Scholars' Honors Program recognized 36 graduates during its 19th annual graduation ceremony on April 26. All graduating Scholars’ Honors Program students have been accepted to some of the nation’s most respected colleges and universities.   • Cerritos College Students Awarded U.S. Department of State’s Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship to study abroad 

    Cerritos College students Miguel Felix, Amy Perez, and Gurpreet Ubbu were awarded the prestigious Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs to study or intern abroad during the summer 2016 academic term.   • Faculty Honored for Distinguished Service

    Eleven faculty members were honored for their service and mentorship to students during the Outstanding Faculty Awards ceremony on April 28. Organized by the Faculty Senate and the Professional Relations Committee, the event was attended by faculty members, administrators, and members of the Board of Trustees.   • Students Accepted into BUILD Program Move Closer to Science Dreams 

    Five Cerritos College students were accepted into California State University, Long Beach (CSULB)’s BUILD Program. Vanessa Altamirano, Tania Rodriguez, Patsy Rodriguez, Tatiana Avila and Chyann Richard will join two Cerritos alumni, Alex Gomez and Amalia Lira, who were accepted into the program last year.   • Diversity Award Luncheon Honors Employee Contributions

    The Diversity and Equal Employment Opportunity Advisory Committee (DEEOAC) and Human Resources recently held a Celebrate Cerritos Diversity Award Luncheon. At the luncheon, 20 employees were awarded Diversity Certificates for completing level 1 workshops, including Creating Cultures of Respect, Safe Zone, and Cultural Intelligence workshops.   • High School Students Pass NIMS Exam

    Dual-enrollment students from Lynwood and Firebaugh High Schools recently took the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS) Measurement, Materials, and Safety exam at Cerritos College. The College has worked with teachers at the two high schools to create dual-enrollment pathways and donated equipment prepare high school students in advanced manufacturing careers and education that allow students to earn college credit while in high school.

    Scarlett Gaitan, culinary arts student at Cerritos College, won first place in the California Community Colleges Culinary Arts Baking Competition in April. Congtratulations!

     

  • May is National Foster Care Month
  • Foster Care Awareness Events Coming in May

    The Leaders Involved in Creating Change (LINC) program will host a series of events in conjunction with the Foster Care Awareness Month, an annual campaign to raise awareness about foster care issues and motivate people to help foster care and foster children succeed.
