Women's History Month Essay Contest Winners Presented with Scholarships

WHM essay winnersWinners of the Women's History Month Essay Contest were honored at a recent Board of Trustees meeting.

Vanessa Bazan won first place for her essay, Based On True Events - My Mom Cleans Houses for a Living. Fernando Preciado took second place for his essay Unbreakable China. Ted Kanou placed third for his essay This Woman's Work. Honorable mentions included Rosa Balcazar's Devotion with Grace, Valerie Soto's A Strong & Selfless Woman, Raquel Lopez's Mom of the Year, and Kelly Perez's Our History is Our Strength.

English Instructor Michelle Fagundes and Philosophy Professor Ana Torres-Bower presented each student with a scholarship from the Cerritos College Foundation. First prize was $250, second place was $150, third prize was $100, and honorable mentions received $50.

The essay contest required submissions to analyze a woman who has fought for better working conditions or improved opportunities at work. A total of 19 essays were submitted.
