    College employees spread warmth and cheer during the holiday reception hosted by President Dr. Jose Fierro, December 7. College staff donated 215 toys for our CARE/CalWORKs/ LINC/veterans students and many necessities for Operation Care Package. Many gave to the newly launched Finish Great Employee Giving Campaign that raises funds for student scholarships and college success programs. View photo gallery

    The Cerritos College Board of Trustees held its annual organizational meeting on December 6. The Board appointed new officers for 2018, re-electing Trustee Zurich Lewis to serve as Board president.   • Re-Entry Student Receives Carmen Solis Pratt Scholarship

    The Cerritos College Foundation recently presented Benjamin Partida-Silva of Lynwood with the $1,800 Carmen Solis Pratt Scholarship. Retired Norwalk Superior Court Judge Dan Pratt established the Carmen Solis Pratt Re-Entry Scholarship in 2001 in memory of his mother who valued education, but was never able to attend college herself...   • Cerritos College Students Receive Paralegal Association Scholarship

     

    Cerritos College Paralegal Program students Hee Soo Kim and Kristin Dennehy recently received a scholarship from the Orange County Paralegal Association (OCPA). Hee Soo will transfer to the University of California Berkeley.   • Forensics Students Rock Fall Tournaments

     

    Cerritos College’s forensics team had a successful fall semester. Team co-captain Anthony Gomez won first place overall in the Lincoln-Douglas debate at the Crossman Invitational tournament at El Camino College in October.     Cerritos College’s Dental Hygiene students provided free dental care at the Care Harbor LA Event held in downtown Los Angeles in November. During the event, 3,500 uninsured, underinsured and underserved participants received free medical, dental and vision services... Link to the full story about dental hygiene

  • Falcon Kids Visit Cerritos College

     

    Seventh and Eighth graders from Ross Middle School’s AVID program became Falcons for a day on December 5. The Falcon Kids program promotes a “college going” culture in the community, and introduces elementary and middle school students to the college life. Fifty students were greeted by Franco Falcon, student leaders and college administrators, then took a campus tour to see college programs and offerings. At the end, they enjoyed lunch with student volunteers, and took home free Cerritos College gear.

  • CalWORKS Turkey Giveaway Brightens Student-Parents’ Holiday

     

    The second annual CalWORKs Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway in November was a joyful day full of happy faces and thankful hearts.
