More Than 100 High School Counselors Get Closer Look at Cerritos College Programs

High school counselors taking campus tourMore than 100 high school counselors participated in the 11th annual High School Counselor Conference in December.

Organized by the School Relations and Career Services and supported by a host of campus departments, the conference offered vital information and updates to high school counselors on admissions, career technical education and academic programs, and educational partnerships offered at Cerritos College. All high schools within the district attended along with campuses as far as La Cañada.

President Jose Fierro welcomed the group followed by a student panel that represented Culinary Arts, Automotive Mechanical Repair, Physical Therapy Assistant, UMOJA, Pharmacy Technology, and Teacher TRAC, and Cerritos Complete.

Featured breakout sessions included DACA, Cerritos Complete, UMOJA, Child Development, and a tour of the Fine Arts building. The Theatre Department’s GIPS improv troupe also entertained participants.

"I really appreciated hearing from the students and their passion for Cerritos. I think that is a huge testament to what a great job everyone is doing there. I think it is so critical to find a "home" in college because that's what keeps students there and helps them achieve success. I really walked away with a better understanding of how much students are valued at Cerritos,” said a counselor in attendance.
