Visual and Cultural Studies Students Attend the College Art Association Conference

Students and faculty at the conferenceAdvanced visual and cultural studies students Michelle Steele and Brian Lombera attended the annual College Art Association Conference in February. They were accompanied by Art and Design Department faculty Dr. Lisa Boutin-Vitela, James MacDevitt, and Julie Trager. Both students plan to pursue graduate degrees after they transfer. Attending this conference was a significant step in their academic journeys.

The students and their faculty advisors attended sessions on cutting-edge subjects related to art history and visual and cultural studies. Dr. Boutin-Vitela presented her use of online tools as pedagogical resources for students conducting independent research in her classroom on a featured panel.

The Cerritos College Art History Program recently expanded its curriculum to include a new associate degree in visual and cultural studies, making the College the first community college in the state to offer the degree option, which is commonly offered at the graduate level only by research universities.
