Festival of Asian Cultures Celebrates Community Through Diverse Cultures

Lion danceThe 2018 Festival of Asian Cultures opened with a life-size, Chinese-inspired puppet dance. It was followed by a variety of live performances by community groups, including a Chinese folk dance, Tai Chi, traditional Chinese dress show, lion dance, choir and instrumental orchestra performance, and Indian dance that fascinated the audience.

Caligraphy boothMore than 200 guests attended the celebration and enjoyed free Chinese, Filipino, Indian, and Korean foods and desserts. In addition, the event featured workshops showcasing calligraphy, painting, and handcrafts.

Since 2006, the College has honored the annual Lunar New Year that is celebrated by Asian cultures across the globe with festivities.

“Our students, community, and staff came together to celebrate and experience the wonderful cultures and traditions of Asia,” said Board Vice President Dr. Shin Liu. “Diversity is an important principle that Cerritos College embraces and is committed to.”
