Colleges Partner to Expand Opportunities for High School Students to Earn College Credit

Students gain more flexibility to claim credit at a college of their choice

Engineering Design Technology classCerritos College, Long Beach City College, El Camino College, and Los Angeles Harbor College have partnered to create a regional articulation agreement with 10 local school districts. An articulation agreement links the curriculum of two or more educational systems and is in place for high school courses that are equivalent or comparable to courses taught at the college campus. Articulation agreements are usually developed within the colleges’ service area, this regional articulation agreement provides students more flexibility in claiming credit at a local college of their choice.

For this regional agreement, students taking the Project Lead the Way “Introduction to Engineering Design” course at a participating school district can qualify to earn high school and college credit.  The school districts participating are: ABC Unified School District (USD), Downey USD, Lynwood USD, Norwalk-La Mirada USD, Paramount USD, Centinela Valley Union High School District, El Segundo USD, Torrance USD, Long Beach USD, and three high schools in the Los Angeles USD.  Students benefit from this opportunity by saving money on tuition, fees and books; earning college credit; and accelerating their progress towards a degree or certificate. This partnership came about as part of the Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering Technology (AMETLL) consortium, which was created to address significant workforce shortages in these industry sectors in the greater Los Angeles region.
