Dental Hygiene Students Provide Free Dental Cleanings

Dental Hygiene students and facultyCerritos College’s Dental Hygiene students provided free dental care to those in need at the Care Harbor LA event on October 15.

During the event, more than 3,000 uninsured, underinsured, and underserved participants received free medical, dental, and vision services. Dental Hygiene students offered cleanings, oral cancer screenings, oral hygiene instructions, x-rays, sealants, and fluoride varnish treatments to more than 250 patients.

“Working at Care Harbor made me grateful to be in a profession that helps make such a difference,” said student Michaela Lee. “Caring for the underserved population was an amazing opportunity to give back and bring fulfillment to my life. The smiles on the patients’ faces brought me motivation and purpose as my class and I enter the field of dentistry.”

Care Harbor’s mission is to promote the health and well-being of underserved populations by offering free clinic events that provide quality, sustainable care.

“It’s a privilege to be part of a profession that offers care to a community in need,” said Dental Hygiene Instructor Marlena Shore. “Our dental hygiene students participated with compassion in the Care Harbor event. This experience will leave a lasting impression on our students that will encourage community service as young professionals.”

Students in the Cerritos College Dental Hygiene program regularly volunteer in the community.
