Dr. Lucinda Aborn Honored for Leadership and Service to Students with Disabilities

Lucinda AbornDr. Lucinda Aborn, Dean of Disabled Students Programs and Services at Cerritos College, received the R.J. Scuderi Exemplary Service Award from the California Association for Postsecondary Education and Disability (CAPED) at its annual convention. The R.J. Scuderi Exemplary Service Award recognizes an outstanding member for their advocacy for students with disabilities. 

“Dr. Aborn has served as a visible leader.  She distinguished herself with her accomplishments, outstanding services and dedication,” said Dr. Scuderi.

“I am deeply honored to receive this award,” said Dr. Aborn. “CAPED is an amazing organization with a vision to improve services for students with disabilities in higher education. I am thrilled to be part of CAPED, and humbled to be recognized in this way.” 

Dr. Aborn has served CAPED in a number of roles, including serving as president from 2004-2006. She currently serves as coordinator of its mentorship program.

Dr. Aborn has worked in the field of disability services for over 30 years. Prior to joining Cerritos College in 2006, she served as the Director of Disabled Student Programs and Services for 13 years at El Camino College. Dr. Aborn also spent 10 years serving as the Director of Disabled Student Programs and Services at California State University, Northridge.
