Cerritos College Declares April as Community College Month
The Board of Trustees joined statewide efforts to declare April as Community College Month. The Board adopted a resolution to highlight the critical role community colleges play in providing students with access to an affordable, quality education. For the sixth time in the last seven years, and 12th time in school history, the Cerritos College women's track and field team won the South Coast Conference Championship. Men's track and field won their first championship since 2013. Both teams will advance to the Southern California Prelims this weekend at Riverside City College.
Festival of Asian Cultures Celebrates Community Through Diverse Cultures
The 2018 Festival of Asian Cultures featured a variety of live performances by community groups and students, including Hawaiian dance and songs, Chinese folk dance, instrumental music performances, yo-yo, Filipino dance, and Indian dance that fascinated the audience. Guests enjoyed free Chinese, Korean and Indian foods and desserts. The event also featured workshops showcasing calligraphy, painting, and handcrafts. Student Wins Second Place in Chinese Proficiency Competition
Student Jocelyn Arriaga competed in the Chinese Bridge competition's intermediate
group against nine other contestants from schools in Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas
on April 20. Jocelyn won second place with her keynote speech “Tian Xia Yi Jia” (One
Family One World), and her performance of the song “Nv er qing” (Maidens’ Love).
Spring 2019 President's Speaker Series a Success
The Spring 2019 President's Speaker Series: A Falcon’s Guide to Wellness concluded on April 26. A total of five sessions empowered participants through topics including wellness, nutrition, stress management, financial management, and creating fitness goals. Thank you, Dr. Fierro and Vince Vizcarra, for the great personal development and learning opportunity.
New Musical Adding Machine ‘Zeros’ in on Murder, Redemption, and Romance
Mister Zero, a middle-aged accountant, loses his job after 25 years. He will be replaced by an adding machine. Photography Professor Christina Fernandez Featured at Getty Museum
Associate Professor of Photography Christina Fernandez's art "Maria's Great expedition" is currently featured in an exhibit Encore: Reenactment in Contemporary Photography at the J. Paul Getty Museum. The work consists of six photographs that tells a story of her great-grandmother, who as a single mother migrated from Mexico to California. The exhibit is open until June 9.
College Signing Day May 1
Do you know a student who applied for transfer, or who want to commit to transfer in the future? Let them know about our inaugural College Signing Day, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. in Falcon Square! Students can sign a commitment certificate and take a picture with Franco Falcon with a university pennant. Light refreshments will be served.
Employee Commuter Survey: Two Minutes for a Chance to Win $250!
The College participates in an annual Employee Commuter Survey. The survey is mandatory and keeps the campus in compliance with Rule 2202 of the South Coast Air Quality Management District. The survey only takes a couple minutes to complete! The deadline to complete the survey has been extended to Friday, May 3 at 5 p.m. All responses, including your personal information, will be kept confidential, and will automatically be entered for a chance to win one of two $250 gift cards!
Update (5/6/19): Join campus police for the drawing of (2) $250 Gift Cards. All employees who completed the Employee Commuter Survey have automatically been entered into the drawing. You do not need to be present to win.
