DH 111  Infection Control and Dental Office Emergencies  (2 units)

Prerequisite:  Acceptance into the Dental Hygiene Program
Corequisite: DH 115

This course covers the basic principles of infection control and the application of "universal precautions" in the dental health care setting.  Included in this course is the selection and use of procedures and products to prevent the spread of infectious diseases in the practice of dental hygiene.  Specific step-by-step procedures and current regulatory mandates related to infection control and the management of hazardous materials will be covered in detail.  In addition, knowledge and skills related to preparedness for the prevention of medical emergencies in the dental setting will be covered.
