What is the purpose of the Philosophy Club

The philosophy club is intended to be a meeting place for students who are interested in the study of philosophy.  The club does not cater exclusively to philosophy majors. All students are welcomed to join.

Here we dive into the field itself and explore, as well as introduce foreign ideas or applications of the field.

We do this with such activities as:

Seminars- In the seminars, we have students, just like you, who wish to present us a topic we might not know much about to the rest of the club.  This student will give us a presentation on the topic.  Keep in mind that many of these students are not experts.  They are student just like you and me.  Any student is free to present a seminar/discussion.  If you are interested in presenting a seminar on a philosophical issue please email us, with your proposed seminar and an outline of the seminar, with three weeks’ notice.

Philosophical Matinee- we don’t want to always have someone speaking. Therefore, there we came up with “Philosophical Matinee.”  On days, that we have this event planned, we will watch a movie/documentary with philosophical context.  Feel free to make suggestions!

Meeting of the minds- During these meetings we get a- chance to get to know each other better, with some food and drinks.  If the opportunity presents itself we might meet outside of the college setting.

Fundraising- Fundraising is preformed in order to obtain funds for events such as the meeting of the minds. That way we can provide food for our members, when possible.
