Psychology students and professors at the conferenceNORWALK, Calif. – September 13, 2016 – The Cerritos College chapter of Psi Beta was honored at the annual American Psychological Association national convention in Denver, Colorado. Professor of Psychology at Cerritos College Dr. Kimberley Duff, Associate Professor Dr. Jaclyn Ronquillo and two students, Nancy Gomez, Noemi Salazar, attended the conference.

The Cerritos College chapter of Psi Beta received a Chapter Excellence Award. The national award recognizes chapters that have achieved the mission of Psi Beta -- professional development of psychology students at community colleges through promotion and recognition of excellence in scholarship, leadership, research and community service.

Nancy and Noemi presented their original research they conducted in Dr. Duff's research methods course.

“For a student to present their work at a professional national conference is quite an accomplishment,” said Dr. Duff. “They represented Cerritos College at the national level and were commended for their level of scholarship and professionalism. I know that this experience made a huge impact on them as they continue their academic journey in psychological science."

“I learned professionalism and workplace skills through the innovative research workshops and presentations at APA in Denver, Colorado. I was able to use the skills I learned at the conference in the summer intensive program at UCLA. I presented a proposal to a professor and other graduate students, for which I was congratulated for my professionalism,” said Nancy.

Nancy plans on advancing her education to become a quantitative psychologist.
