WPMD’s Un Poquito Latino is America’s Best Foreign Language College Radio Program

Gabriella Holguin and Octavio ValenzuelaNORWALK, Calif. – March 25, 2019 – Cerritos College's WPMD radio program Un Poquito Latino was named America’s Best Foreign Language College Radio Program by the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System (IBS)’s 79th Annual International Conference in New York.

Gabriella Holguin and Octavio Valenzuela began Un Poquito Latino in 2018 to feature a mix of contemporary Latin music from the 70's, current artists, commentary about the music of Mexico’s youth culture, and issues impacting Central and South America.

WPMD is a student-operated radio station at Cerritos College that provides content and programming for students, faculty, staff and community members on 1700 AM and worldwide on streaming sites including TuneIn, Streema, and Radio Shaker. In 2018, the station was named America’s Best Community College Radio Station by IBS.

IBS is a non-profit education corporation that serves non-profit education affiliated high school radio, college radio, community stations and streaming/webcasters and provides information, resource and conferences for its member broadcasting stations.

The organization honors excellence in programming, air personalities, public service efforts and outstanding stations with the IBS Golden Microphone Awards every year.
