The executive council team in a racing jacket with a green flag kicked off the Convocation – Cerritos 500: Race to Completion. California Community Colleges Chancellor Sonya Christian praised the college's strong leadership and tireless work supporting Vision 2030, the systemwide framework to advance student success, access, support, and socio-economic mobility with equity through a video message.

Cameron Ferre and his dragsterFollowing that, President/Superintendent Dr. Jose Fierro shared the college's five-year goal of graduating 50 percent of students of each race/ethnicity who first enroll at Cerritos College in the fall 2024 term by spring 2029, aligned with the chancellor's Vision 2030. To accomplish the goal, the campus will aim for 75 percent of the first-time fall 2024 cohort to earn 15+ degree applicable units by the end of their second year and half of the cohort to earn all attempted credits in their first five courses.

Keynote speaker Josh Wyner, founder and executive director of the college excellence program at Aspen Institute, addressed how excellent community colleges deliver value. Josh pointed out that colleges need to offer value, such as transfer and workforce pipelines, to attract students and drive them to complete the community college education with a vision for success beyond completion.
