Christian Brown

Christian Brown is chair of the Journalism & Media Studies Department at Cerritos College and faculty adviser of the student newspaper Talon Marks, which is a grantee of the Golden Globe Foundation. He also serves as Southern California president of the Journalism Association of Community Colleges.
In addition to teaching, Brown is an Edward R. Murrow Award-winning journalist, specializing in print, broadcast and digital reporting on topics of politics, culture and public affairs.
In 2009, Brown joined The Downey Patriot newspaper as an intern and was hired as a staff writer the following year. Since then, he's worked at NPR-station LAist (Southern California Public Radio) as a beat reporter and traveled to Indonesia as a foreign correspondent for The World from PRX and GBH (formerly PRI's The World).
His work on KPCC's 'Officer Involved' investigative series on police shooting deaths was recognized with a regional Edward R. Murrow Award in 2016. That same year, Brown was named editor-in-chief of The Norwalk Patriot newspaper, where he oversaw all news content in both print and digital platforms.
Brown has also won three L.A. Press Club awards. One prize in 2015 for a lifestyle feature on LA's mass grave in Boyle Heights and a pair of awards in 2014 for a news feature on increases in LA County homelessness and an investigative report on the quid pro quo acquisition of a bankrupt community hospital in Downey.
Brown graduated cum laude from Cal State Fullerton in 2010, earning his B.A. in Communications. In 2015, he graduated at the top of his cohort from the USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism with an M.S. in Journalism.
