Welcome to the Self-Report Tool (SRT) AND GUIDED placement TOOL (GPT) FOR ENGLISH/ESL AND MATH PLACEMENT
What are the Self-Report Tool (SRT) and Guided Placement Tool (GPT)?
The SRT is an online questionnaire which provides new, first-time college students with the opportunity to place directly into transfer level English, ESL or Math courses based on their United States high school records. There are two sections: one for English/ESL and one for Math.
The GPT is an online questionnaire for students who graduated more than ten years age or did not complete 3+ years of high school in the U.S.
How long does it takes to complete the SRT/GPT?
Each section takes about 10-15 minutes to complete.
What do I need in order to take the SRT?
- Submit an admissions application for the semester in which you will be enrolling in classes.
- Your 7-digit Cerritos College student ID number
- A personal email. Students will receive a confirmation of the SRT submission by the email provided.
- A valid form of picture ID card. We accept a California's ID card, high school ID card, passport, transcripts with a picture, etc. A paper copy or a picture of the ID card will not be accepted.
It is strongly recommended that students bring a copy of their United States high school transcripts to accurately answer some of the the SRT questions.
Official or unofficial transcripts are accepted.
Here are a couple of ways students can request a copy of their high school transcripts:
- By logging in to their high school portal.

What is my next step after taking the SRT?
If you have not completed the New Student Orientation, please login into your MyCerritos account and complete the online orientation.
For questions about course(s) selection and degree requirements, it is recommended that you meet with an academic counselor. Visit the Counseling Department website for more information at http://www.cerritos.edu/counseling/
Prior to leaving the Assessment Center, you will fill out a "Recommendation Checklist" to record your placement information. Please bring the checklist with you when you meet with a counselor.
When will my SRT placement results post on my transcripts?
It may take 1-3 business days for the placement results to post on your unofficial Cerritos College transcript.
