On December 11, 2024, Trustee Mariana Rios was sworn in as the newest member of the Cerritos College Board of Trustees for Area 4, which includes Hawaiian Gardens, Lakewood, Bellflower, parts of Long Beach, and Cerritos. A resident of Hawaiian Gardens for over 40 years, Trustee Rios brings deep roots and a strong commitment to her community.
A lifelong learner, Trustee Rios holds two Bachelor of Arts degrees - one in Political Science with an emphasis on Public Administration and another in Chicano/Latino Studies from California State University, Long Beach - as well as an Associate of Arts degree in Floral Design and Shop Management from Golden West College. She is also currently pursuing a degree in Interior Design.
With over 30 years of experience in education and public service, Trustee Rios has held various roles, including serving as a Councilmember for the City of Hawaiian Gardens, working in the California State Assembly and Senate under Assemblymember/Senator Martha Escutia, and teaching elementary school for the past 24 years.
Trustee Rios views her position on the Cerritos College Board as an incredible opportunity and feels honored to serve a broader community. In her free time, she enjoys creating floral designs, crocheting, sewing, and participating in Zumba classes.
