English

The English department supports the Black Lives Matter movement and racial justice. As faculty, we acknowledge the role that academic institutions and the discipline of English have played in creating and perpetuating racial inequities in education and in our country. We recognize that our own department, whether intentionally or unintentionally, has contributed to these inequities and are devoted to remedying them by working toward dismantling structural racism, particularly as it affects the Black community.  As a department, we are committed to examining our own unconscious biases, revising our courses to challenge historical inequities in our discipline, and, with intention, engaging the work of Black writers in our courses and department activities. These actions are a starting point, and we are committed to ongoing reflection and continued action toward racial justice. See Cerritos College's Statement of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
