Music


The Music Department at Cerritos College is about discovering what you are passionate about and creating possibilities for your music career. We offer degrees and certificates that enable you to transfer to a four-year institution or prepare you for the workforce. Our department consists of talented and dedicated faculty committed to offering you the highest quality of education, service, and preparation for a career in music.

If you are a performer, the Applied program, prepares you for transfer to a four-year institution as a music major. You will learn in an environment modeled after leading four-year music institutions. At the same time, you will be exposed to new technologies in music and develop professional skills to help you design and achieve your music goals. The Applied music program offers individual instruction a variety of instruments and voices in classical and contemporary styles such as pop, rock, and jazz. You have a choice of ensembles to perform in that best suit your instrument and musical style.

The Commercial Music program is for students who desire to incorporate technology and music industry skills into their career. Our Commercial Music courses are designed to prepare you for a career in the music industry working as a sound engineer, sound designer, live engineer, music producer, product manager, and other opportunities. As a Commercial Music student, you will learn to operate produce music on the following software platforms: Avid Pro Tools, Steinberg Cubase, and Ableton Live.
