Cerritos College Political Science Department

Welcome!

Welcome to the homepage for the Department of Political Science. Political science is the systematic study of power, government, public policy, and political behavior. In our department, we examine how political systems operate, how decisions are made, and how individuals and communities influence those systems—locally, nationally, and globally.

Our courses provide a strong foundation in American government, political theory, comparative politics, international relations, race and ethnic politics, and global studies. Along the way, students build valuable skills in research, critical thinking, writing, and public speaking—skills that are essential for success in college, careers, and civic life.

Whether you plan to transfer to a four-year university, prepare for law school, work in public service, advocate for social justice, or simply become a more informed and engaged member of your community, political science offers tools to help you get there. The field opens doors to a wide range of careers in law, education, public administration, international affairs, journalism, nonprofit leadership, political organizing, and beyond.

At Cerritos College, we recognize that many of our students are the first in their families to attend college. Our faculty are committed to your success and ready to support you every step of the way. We foster an inclusive learning environment that values curiosity, debate, and civic engagement. We invite you to explore the forces shaping our communities—and discover your own power to make a difference.
