Chinese program and student club celebrates Lunar New Year at Stowers Elementary
On January 28, the college's Chinese program and Chinese Club hosted a Lunar New Year
event at Stowers Elementary, a school in the community known for its Chinese immersion
program. Guided by club volunteers, students in grades 1 through 6 enthusiastically
participated in a lantern-making activity and received red envelopes (Hong Bao in
Mandarin) containing lucky coins and candies.
"The event allowed elementary students to learn about Lunar New Year traditions and appreciate the cultural themes of the festival, such as family reunion, prosperity, renewal, and good fortune," said Chinese instructor and club advisor Yiran Zhou. "Additionally, it helped build a bridge between the Chinese programs at the college and the elementary school, while strengthening the connection between the college and the community."
