Child Development Center achieves 5-star rating for excellence in care and education
The Cerritos College Child Development Center (CDC) recently earned a Tier 5 rating from Quality Start Los Angeles (QSLA), the highest distinction in the county-wide initiative that supports early learning providers in improving care for children from birth to age five. QSLA is part of the statewide Quality Counts California initiative, which encompasses all 58 counties... Link to the full story about CDC
Continuing Education celebrates Field Ironworker Apprenticeship Program graduates
The Continuing Education Division hosted a graduation ceremony for the Field Ironworker Apprenticeship Program on March 7. Nearly 40 graduates were celebrated for completing their training. Student Luis Gonzalez received special recognition for his outstanding achievements, including the highest GPA, best attendance, and notable contributions to community service. Following the ceremony, graduates and their families enjoyed dinner and a special ironworker-themed cake prepared by the Culinary Arts department. Congratulations, graduates!
Women in construction share their journeys
Inspiring stories of women in construction were shared last week during two impactful events. The first event, titled "Latinas: Unexplored Pathways," featured ironworker and entrepreneur Alejandra Rosales, along with Claudia Ximena Benavides Ulloa. They engaged in a powerful fireside chat on March 10. On March 13, three women who lead the Student Services and Administration Building shared their experiences during a luncheon titled “Breaking and Building Glass Ceilings: A Conversation with Women Paving the Way in Construction at Cerritos and Beyond.” Senior Project Manager Lori Epstein, Architect Julia Jones, and Assistant Superintendent Alexis Hernandez, a Cerritos College alum, discussed their journeys into a traditionally untraditional field for women.
Health Science & Wellness Pathway Fair
Encourage students to join the Health & Wellness Fair on Wednesday, March 26, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in Falcon Square. Explore booths from Kinesiology, Culinary Arts, Dental Assisting, Nursing, etc., and student resources like Falcon’s Nest and EOPS. Don't miss the Falcon Alumni Health Professionals Panel at 11:30 a.m. on the Student Center South Stage, with a free lunch for the first 100 attendees! View the flyer.
Community Resource Fair on March 25
The Re-Entry Program will host the 16th annual Community Resource Fair on Tuesday, March 25, 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. in Student Center. The fair connects students and community members with essential resources, including child care, health care, legal aid, emergency shelters, social services, treatment programs, credit counseling, volunteer opportunities, and many more. The event will also feature a prize drawing. View the flyer.
Free income tax assistance event on March 29
The Cerritos College Accounting Department and Accounting Club will offer free income tax assistance on March 29. Sponsored by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program provides free tax help to people with an income of $70,000 or less who need assistance preparing their tax returns. Journey to Leadership: Inspiring Success in Education, Profession, and Community
The Cerritos Chapter of the Association of Latino Students for America (ALPFA) will present Okorie Ramsey, Vice President of Sarbanes-Oxley, and former Chair of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), to speak about Mr. Ramsey will share his journey to higher education, how he dealt with adversity, and lessons learned throughout his journey to leadership roles in his company, profession and the community. Job Fair coming to Cerritos College on April 3
Cerritos College will host a free job fair on Thursday, April 3. Job seekers will have an opportunity to connect with more than 30 employers at this semi-annual job fair. Attendees can explore current job opportunities, apply for positions on-site, and network with employers from various industries. Job seekers are encouraged to dress in business attire and bring copies of their resumes. Resume assistance will also be available. Thursday, April 3, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. in Student Center
