SYNOPSIS:

A companion to Walton Jones's The 1940's Radio Hour, A 1940's Radio Christmas Carol follows the Feddington Players as they broadcast a live radio adaptation of Dickens’s A Christmas Carol from a hole-in-the-wall studio in Newark on Christmas Eve, 1943. Guest star William St. Claire, a stage veteran and radio novice, plays Scrooge. Noisy plumbing, missed cues and blackouts send the broadcast off the rails, and the company improvises a film noir finish to get the show home.

Character Breakdown:

NOTE: Ages are noted to give actors a sense of how to play the character but not to limit actors from auditioning. We will cast ALL ages.


CLIFTON FEDDINTON - 55 years old Mutual Announcer and front man for WOV's Nash-Kelvinator Mystery Theatre. Glenn Miller type. New York accent

WILLIAM ST. CLAIRE - 70 years old retired star of stage and screen. Serious actor. Has a son that is fighting in the war. Mid-Atlantic accent.

CHARLES "CHOLLY" BUTTS - 35 years old funny man. Has a day job as a baker, a little stout. New York accent.

FRITZ CANIGLIARO - Early 40's. Used to be a Florsheim shoe salesman, now a WOV regular. The resident cynic and wise guy. New York accent.

"LITTLE" JACKIE SPEARS - Only 17 and not Little but young. Still lives with his mom and probably calls home a dozen times a day. New York Accent

JUDITH DAVENPORT - 30's the resident leading lady with comedy chops. Determined and stubborn. New York Accent.

MARGIE O'BRIEN -30's Irish-American Comedienne. Another WOV regular, a total ham. New York accent.

SALLY SIMPSON - 20's sweet and gentle but can also be tough. Another show regular, she plays all the animals, babies, insects and little kids. New York Accent.

ISADORE "BUZZ" CRENSHAW -20's "sound effectician" Foley artist on the show. His work is his life. Sharp wit and agreeable. New York accent

TOOTS NAVARRE - Any age. Male or Female. Musical Director for the show. Would be great if this actor could play piano but not required. New York accent.

ESTHER PIRNIE -any age. Backstage Audio Engineer. Has stage fright. Follows the rules. New York accent.

FOR AUDITIONS:
Actors are encouraged to bring in a memorized 1-2 minute comedic contemporary monologue and 16 bars of any Christmas carol that they know. Actors will sing acapella. Headshot and resume are also encouraged but not required. 
If actors have experience with a New York accent, they are encouraged to perform their monologue in this accent. Actors who are not trained in the accent or do not feel comfortable auditioning with accent will still be considered equally.
