Enter Intelligent Transportation Systems
Intelligent transportation systems (ITS) have been around since the introduction of the first stoplight. The first stoplight was installed in Detroit in 1920. ITS includes the following traffic management systems:

Vehicle on-board navigation systems
• Traffic signal control systems
• Truck and rail container management systems
• Traffic message signs
• Automatic number plate recognition
• Speed and traffic violation cameras.

ITS also includes more advanced applications such as the following:
• Security closed-circuit television (CCTV) used for surveillance
• More advanced CCTV applications which integrate live data and feedback from a number of other sources, such as parking guidance and information systems, weather information, bridge de-icing systems, and the like.
• ‘Predictive’ ITS systems which allow advanced modeling and comparison with historical baseline data.
