AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF WOODTURNERS GRANT
The program has been awarded a $1250 Educational Opportunity Grant from the American Association of Woodturners thanks to Jim Driskell, instructor and developer of the woodturning program here at Cerritos College. Jim applied for the grant back in November in hopes of obtaining funding to purchase additional equipment and supplies for his classes. Now that the money is here, he plans to buy eight chucks and other miscellaneous accessories that will be ready for students to use by the fall semester*.
The American Association of Woodturners is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to the advancement of woodturning. Every year, the association auctions off pieces made by recognized members to raise money for their Educational Opportunity Grant. In turn, they are able to award grants to individual woodturners and groups or educational institutions that provide instruction in woodturning.
A special thanks to the American Association of Woodturners and Jim Driskell for enhancing our woodworking program!

CSAW PURCHASES AN EIGHTEEN INCH LAGUNA LATHE FOR THE PROGRAM
CSAW is at it again—they have invested their earnings to purchase another machine for the program! Earlier this year, CSAW purchased an eighteen inch lathe from Laguna Tools. The larger lathe will allow advanced students to progress beyond the capacity of the smaller Jet mini-lathes currently used in the turning program. With this machine, students can make projects as large as eighteen inches in diameter and forty inches in length. The lathe is set up and ready for use in WD-12.
Thank you CSAW for continuing to make our program better and thank you to all those who purchase supplies from CSAW to make it all possible!
